Fresh water generator

Making fresh water from seawater under vacuum, using waste heat from the engine jacket water.

Also called: fresh water generator, FWG, FWG plates, marine evaporator, freshwater generator gaskets.

Standard Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger

The evaporator and the condenser are both plate packs, and both see seawater, so the plates are titanium. Boiling under vacuum at low temperature is what keeps scaling slow, which is why the jacket water outlet temperature decides the output. The plates and gaskets are the wearing parts, and they are usually what a ship replaces.
